The article in The HR Director by Debra Clark of Everywhen (formerly Towergate Employee Benefits) highlights some of the findings from The HR Mental Wellbeing Survey 2025 in which Ultimate Resilience partnered with Towergate to understand the mental health challenges of over 1400 HR professionals.
The report showed widespread strain within the profession, with 87% of HR professionals saying workplace support is insufficient and more than three-quarters either experiencing or at risk of burnout.
Debra Clark stresses that HR teams—despite being the backbone of employee support—are being pushed to their limits by growing demands and shrinking resources, warning that prevention of burnout is both more effective and less costly than dealing with its consequences later. She argues that organisations must act urgently to support HR before they reach a critical breaking point, noting that without proper backing the function itself is at risk, as reflected in high levels of poor wellbeing, rising symptoms of depression, and the 42% considering leaving the profession; ultimately, she underscores that if HR is not supported, the entire organisational support system can begin to fail.
At Ultimate Resilience, we have been pioneering HR Supervision as a system of professional support that creates impartial space for HR professionals to reflect on the challenges of their work and facilitates improved workplace wellbeing and functioning. Find out more about HR Supervision here:
